Third year residents attend Trauma Awareness Day at Georgia Capitol

2017 Advocacy Day

The  inaugural Trauma Awareness Day at the Georgia Capitol was February 7, 2017.  The PGY3 Class spent the morning learning about the importance of advocacy work outside of the hospital by joining our trauma surgery colleagues in support of the American College of Surgeon’s Stop the Bleed Campaign. They met with legislators in the Georgia House and Senate and asked them to support a bill that would fund the provision of hemorrhage control kits in all Georgia public schools. More importantly, they gained an appreciation for how easy and important it was for them to share their perspectives with lawmakers. Special appreciation to Drs. Shamie Das and Brenda Oiyemhonlan for their assistance in setting up this unique experience.
