Celebrate Our Legacy
2017 is a milestone year for Emory Emergency Medicine. We pause to look back on our legacy and celebrate the many faculty, residents, fellows, providers, and staff who have contributed and continue to contribute to our mission. 2017 marks the 40th anniversary of the first graduating class of our Emergency Medicine Residency Program, Dr. Shayne’s leadership transition, and the appointment of our new residency leadership team. We also celebrate the completion of the Grady Emergency Department renovation as well as the 125th anniversary of Grady Hospital.
Our celebration will be anchored by a Legacy Event, to take place on Saturday, October 7, 2017. This celebration is an opportunity to highlight our legacy and also raise funds and awareness for our mission.

TEAM BLUE for Education and Innovation
Coaches: Dr. Philip Shayne, Dr. Melissa White, Dr. David Wright
Great tools now exist to modernize how we deliver education. The days of the traditional lecture are in twilight and in order to keep the national recognition of the Emergency Medicine Resident program we need to ‘flip’ our classrooms. This means investing in individualized instruction, social media tools, and simulation as we train your future colleagues. Our renowned faculty are working on ideas which will not only revolutionize Emory, but can be used internationally. Similar to how the Emory Ebola protocols were copied everywhere, we believe the Emory EM curriculum can be the national standard. With a $70,000 investment, we can make this happen.
TEAM GOLD for Wellness & Well-Being, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
Coaches: Dr. Sheryl Heron, Dr. Hany Atallah, Dr. Doug Ander
Emory Emergency Medicine is proud to be one of the most diverse departments in the School of Medicine. Wellness and well-being, along with diversity, equity and inclusion are cornerstones of who we are and what the department strives for. This commitment shines through in the communities we serve and the enjoyment we feel for being a part of something larger than ourselves. This is our ethos. For Emergency Medicine to continue the tradition of excellence and to foster an environment that continues to produce leaders across the globe who enjoy our specialty, our goal is to raise funds that allow us to recruit and retain faculty, residents, and fellows who share our vision. To do so, we are vested in broadening our current programs that focus on leadership and the development of various scholarships to support global health travel and build partnerships.
