Dr. Shayne joined the Emory University School of Medicine faculty in 1996. He received his MD at University of Illinois College of Medicine and completed his emergency medicine residency at Cook County Hospital.

Dr. Shayne is the recipient of the ACEP National Faculty Award and the ACGME Parker J. Palmer Courage to Teach Award.

Dr. Shayne is a member of American College of Emergency Physicians, the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine, the Council of Emergency Medicine Residency Directors and is Chair of the ACMGE Review Committee for Emergency Medicine.

Dr. Shayne's interests include medical education outcomes, innovations in clinical education, and adult assessment. His clinical focus has been on the management of severe hypertension and hypertensive crises.
